This project explored opportunities to improve pedestrian and cyclist access to, along and across the river while enhancing the surrounding public realm and strengthening connections to some of the city's most significant heritage landscapes.

Working within a complex environment shaped by flooding, heritage constraints and existing infrastructure, the design sought to create a seamless river experience that prioritises people, movement and place. A new pedestrian and cycle bridge, together with upgraded foreshore connections and public spaces, was conceived as part of a broader network that encourages exploration of the river corridor and reconnects communities on both banks.

The design responds sensitively to its setting, drawing on the character of neighbouring bridges, heritage structures and the river landscape. New pathways, boardwalks, viewing areas and open spaces were carefully integrated to improve accessibility, reveal significant heritage elements and create new opportunities to engage with the water's edge.

By bringing together movement, landscape and heritage, the project reimagines the Parramatta River as a civic destination rather than simply a crossing point. The outcome is a connected and memorable public realm that strengthens the relationship between people, place and river.
